Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the learning process, including efforts to enhance student engagement. Learning technology provides various opportunities to create learning environments that are interactive, flexible, collaborative, personal, and engaging. This study aimed to analyze the use of learning technology to enhance student engagement and to identify the forms of technology, the mechanisms of use, the benefits, and the challenges that arise in its application. The study used a qualitative method with a literature-study approach. The data sources were scholarly articles addressing student engagement, educational technology, online learning, gamification, interactive technology, digital collaboration, artificial intelligence, adaptive learning, and the personalization of learning. The analysis was descriptive-interpretive, through the identification, grouping, synthesis, and interpretation of various research findings. The results indicate that learning technology can enhance student engagement through increased interactivity, intrinsic motivation, collaboration, personalization, the provision of feedback, learning flexibility, and the creation of more engaging learning experiences. Gamification, interactive technology, adaptive learning, digital media, collaborative platforms, and artificial intelligence are among the forms of technology with the potential to enhance student engagement. The effectiveness of technology use, however, is influenced by digital literacy, the quality of learning design, teachers' competence, access to devices and the internet, and the ability of technology to provide meaningful learning experiences. Learning technology therefore does not automatically enhance student engagement; its effectiveness depends heavily on how technology is designed and integrated into a pedagogical strategy oriented toward learners' needs, motivation, and characteristics.
