Screening for Plagiarism

Journal of Sinar Psychological Science (JSPS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. To ensure the originality of every manuscript published, JSPS applies a strict plagiarism screening policy for all submissions.

1. Plagiarism Detection Process

All manuscripts submitted to JSPS will be screened for plagiarism using a similarity-checking tool (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or Plagiarism Checker X) prior to being sent for peer review. This screening is conducted by the editorial team as part of the initial manuscript evaluation.

2. Similarity Index Threshold

Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding 25% (excluding references, quotations, and standard/common phrases) will not be considered for further review and will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright. Manuscripts with a similarity index above 50%, or with substantial matching to a single source, will be automatically rejected without further review.

3. Types of Plagiarism Checked

The screening process identifies, but is not limited to, the following forms of misconduct:

Direct plagiarism – verbatim copying of text from another source without proper citation
Self-plagiarism – reuse of the author's own previously published work without proper disclosure or citation
Paraphrasing plagiarism – rewording another author's work without proper attribution
Mosaic plagiarism – mixing copied phrases from multiple sources with the author's own writing without appropriate citation
Data fabrication or falsification, which is treated as a separate but related form of research misconduct

4. Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality of their submitted manuscript. All sources of information, ideas, data, and direct quotations used in the manuscript must be properly cited and referenced according to the journal's author guidelines.

5. Editorial Action on Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected at any stage of the publication process during initial screening, peer review, or after publication - JSPS will take the following actions in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines:

Before publication: the manuscript will be rejected, and the author(s) will be notified with an explanation.
After publication: the article will be subject to correction, retraction, or an expression of concern, depending on the severity of the case, and the author's institution may be notified.

6. Reporting Suspected Plagiarism

Readers, reviewers, or editors who suspect plagiarism in a published or submitted manuscript are encouraged to report their concerns to the JSPS editorial team via the journal's official contact channel for further investigation.

JSPS reserves the right to reject any manuscript at any stage of the editorial process if plagiarism or other forms of research misconduct are identified.
